photography basics learnt (unit 1 part B)

Photography Basic

Important to capability of seeing the surrounding and use knowledge and personal feel the subject you want to take photograph of. Photography is basically seeing and balancing the light.

Aperture is placed inside the lens and is basically an opening that controls how much light reaches the sensor.

A shutter is inside the camera body this is the key which controls how long the sensor is exposed to the light.

Aperture

Knowing how the aperture affects the photograph is one of the most important parts photograph. Affects the amount of light, depth of field, lens speed, sharpness .

Higher f-number = a smaller aperture = less light

Lower f-number =larger aperture =more light

Karen explain the best way of  learning how to get my head around aperture was to get my camera out and do some experimenting shots. so here I go ....

Feedback form complete so far, collect yesterday after being in a meeting with Reveo commuity (unit 2 part E)

Collecting feedback was done by this questionnaire which was left in the hub so people could fill it out: results below

Feedback

I have collected some of the local people feedback from Culture shop to see what other though of the display example of some the quotes received are below. On the whole most people had positive feedback for the window display.  The only negative feedback I was inform of was “the piece seemed a little small so it hard to see”.  I had few people saying that had to go right up to the shop window to see the piece.  Further planning if I was to do the project again I would have lighting, spot lights on the piece and enlarge the photographs so they were bolder and made bigger impact on people.

The children said they enjoyed taking photograph and were pleased with the result they would like to keep own photographs. Children seem to enjoy the sessions especially going out to take photographs with their personal camera. I think the children would love take more photograph unfortunately the camera film was limited therefore maybe bigger filmed disposable cameras would have been better the children.  We asked if the hub/ Ibbison Court could keep the piece after the display had finished and also children requests for the copies of the photos they taken, showing they were pleased what they had done. “I've got to say, the girls did a brilliant job and the community group were thrilled with the workshops and the end result”.

Lots of positive feedback about “It reflected the local area”  and “Captured the area well and gave a sense of history”. We pleased local people felt we had shown Reveo area well. “I loved the way the ageing process made each photo look like there was a story behind it- it makes Central Drive Mysterious!” The disposable cameras and editing the photographs was a good idea and work really well. “Reminding people of the good things in the area, People really thought they were old photos. Very interesting”.

What I have learnt from the feedback is that the piece should ideally bigger and should have used light. If I were run the project, again I would maybe make the photographs larger so they could be seen from across the street. I also think have put spot lights in the window would highlighted the piece from outside to get more people attenuation.  I personally think if we had more time we would have been able to scoured better materials to display the photographs, this would gave the shop window a more professional overall look.

Research on photograph techinques (unit 1 part A/C)

Been to the library to get some books on more techniques and to learn understand photograph.   I fell there is a lot to learn the main point from both books and practitioners is the more practice the better understand I will gain, Lighting also a Key factor with photography.

risk assessment (unit 2 part A/B)

Blackpool Culture Shop - original proposal to Blackpool Council (unit 2 part A/B)

The original proposal to Blackpool Council had seven people participating in the workshop from Gold Arts Award group; unfortunately a lot of the group had other committees and therefore could not take part in Culture Shop. This left the group with three-artists to run the workshop. Sadly, the original proposal was mainly design by another member who was not in the last three that made keeping to the original proposal difficult. Six workshops was a lot to do by three in such a short amount of time we had. The proposal had two-element one was jewellery making and local architecture. We had to cut the workshops down to three and keep to one of the original idea local architecture. Others could of potentially brought to the more to the project because we would been able to stick original plan. The workshops could be run for longer giving the children more of range activities. The jewellery would be able have do with the knowledge the other members which we did not have.
As the project was left to three members I think the decision making was easier and the running of the small groups.  However I do believe we would be able to run more workshops with more of range activities because would been more artists more knowledge different areas. When it came to the final project a lot was left to for my part to organise and finish the project to the target date.  I imagine it was easier managing just the three of us rather than original seven however areas of expertise, ideas generated may have lack in the project. I felt the team was not equal balance in deliver the overall project because some member worked harder than others did. This could due to different age range and some member had college committed so did not have the energy to put there all into the project.
With working with young people I think was interesting approach to this project. The project had a lot energy to it I believe because of the young children. They were excited in using the disposable camera and had opportunity to go out take photographs. I do not think this would be the case  if we were working older age range because they will have use seen or even used disposable camera before.  However, I do think this project could be run again with larger groups of the local community with larger age range. I think would be interesting to see their views from older generation. It would be possible get them take them on own cameras or on their phones send them in. New technology has advantages because it is quick easy to use but my worry would be that we struggle to get them to send them in at the end project. I imagine adult may not find this as exciting as the young people did because they already get the opportunity to take photos. I think adults would less engage in doing activities’ as young people were.   When talking to local in the community it seem to be very divide in that young people will join in the activities’ already in the area where as older people do not.
