Practical things I have done to date... finding out about arts organisations in local area and beyond
Grand
Theatre visit:
Review- Champloo “White Caps” The Grand Blackpool.
18th November 2012 – Nicola Dolphin
I was sitting in the beautiful historic building of the Grand Theatre to watch a dance group called Champloo, “White Caps”; I didn't know what to expect although I have an artistic background I am a real novice about dance.
The performance followed the journey of two male dancers as they set off through the countryside, the woods, streams, waterfall to finally ending up to white caps. I enjoyed how the dancers reacted to the natural environment to create different visual affects using break dance. One of the images, which intrigued me, was the powerful image of the water cascading down the steps, imagery of the dancers climbing a mountain, which often uses struggling as the metaphor, but they successfully got to the top.
As the performance began, I felt excited by the energy of the live original multimedia dance experience, which strikes you as something different and exciting. I was viewing a very different dance piece from anything I have seen before. Artistic effects with the projected emotional film clips and energetic break dance worked really well together as a whole piece. The unusual slow projected video image against fast moving break-dancers worked surprisingly well along with music. The music was emotional and powerful working very well with the hip hop dance to produce an experience to remember and to recommend to others.
“White Caps” is a fantastic exciting experience of live dance, which interacted with the audience by their energetic interactive dance.
Friday 16th November- I attended
workshop run by SAND on tendering for arts based work delivered by Sandra Hall

Friction Arts
Training
with Sandra from Friction Arts from Birmingham
The
training was mostly about how to get funding for artwork in the community, she
also said about her background and her 20 years experience in the art field.
The Key
points I learnt from this were …
· define the value of your art
· Idea, making and duration
· start with an idea – mind mapping
and brainstorming
· It’s ok to use business tools
· keeping tracking of art work - the
importance of doing this… eg blogs, dairy… recording and documenting work for
future
· always be yourself and talk the
way you would do normally
Attending
this meeting, I learnt what was going on around the local area of Blackpool. It
was a good way of networking with other artists. I met Karen Duckworth
(photographer) at this particular meeting. I was able to introduce myself to
her for a potential meet up to discuss working with her. The training tough
me key things about displaying my artwork and how I or we could go about
getting possible funding. It was useful to have helpful information from a
working artist.
